About Convo Communications LLC Founded in March 2009, Convo is the world’s largest Deaf-owned business, with more than 500 employees serving five countries in ten languages. Convo believes conversations are essential to connection, access, and opportunity. By creating technology and services that address the experience deprivation many Deaf people face, Convo works to improve everyday communication and create lasting positive impact for Deaf individuals and the people around them. About the role The Software Engineer II is a key member of the Engineering team, responsible for designing, building, and maintaining reliable software that supports Convo’s mission-critical communication platform. The role requires sound technical judgment, clear communication, and the ability to work across legacy systems and modern microservices. Engineers are expected to manage ambiguity, identify risks, make thoughtful trade-offs, and deliver production-ready code in an always-on environment. System Architecture & Technical Alignment Design and implement services and features within established architectural patterns, contributing to technical designs and implementation plans while collaborating with senior engineers on broader system impact. Evaluate approaches and trade-offs to support consistency, scalability, reliability, security, privacy, and compliance across the platform. Software Development & Delivery Develop, test, and deploy production-ready software with appropriate automated testing. Balance delivery speed with system stability and maintainability, applying sound judgment when refactoring existing systems or implementing pragmatic fixes. Document technical decisions, communicate trade-offs clearly, participate in code reviews, and follow established engineering standards and best practices. Operational Ownership & Risk Management Identify technical risks, performance bottlenecks, and system weaknesses, proposing solutions and partnering with senior engineers on higher-impact improvements. Participate in production support, incident response, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and follow-up remediation. Contribute to monitoring, logging, and alerting practices that improve system health and reliability. Documentation & Communication Create and maintain clear technical documentation, implementation notes, architectural context, and code-level guidance. Use strong written communication to keep work, decisions, risks, and open questions visible and accessible in a distributed environment. Cross-Functional Collaboration Partner with Product, Operations, and Engineering teams to understand requirements and deliver reliable technical solutions. Collaborate effectively across time zones using tools such as Slack, Jira, and shared documentation, while contributing to continuous improvements in system reliability, developer efficiency, and operational clarity.
