Description:
Muon Space is working at the forefront of satellites, advanced sensors, business intelligence, and climate science. From satellite missions to modeling to data analytics and actionable insights, we believe measuring, understanding and predicting Earth’s complex, coupled systems is both a great business opportunity and key to leaving future generations a livable, productive and healthy planet.
We are a geographically diverse company with teams in the San Francisco Bay area, Los Angeles, and Boulder, Colorado. We seek great talent wherever it may be, and remote locations are possible.
Muon is looking for a Software Engineer (Backend) to join our backend software team. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated versatile software engineer who is excited to build our cloud infrastructure, web services and applications like mission control software, data pipelines, and tools to gain insight into Earth’s complex systems. Our team is responsible for all software that is not running on the spacecraft: we will build our deployable applications and manage the infrastructure they run on.
Oversee the overall cloud architecture, helping choose which technologies we will use, how we will organize the system, and when we should build systems in-house vs buy them off the shelf, to maximize the impact of our team
Manage the container infrastructure we will use to deploy our cloud applications, using tools like Kubernetes, Helm, and AWS Lambda
Build a world class Mission Control in the cloud, using tools like Docker and Django.
Build the spacecraft to cloud data integration: processing and archiving the command history and telemetry, using tools like Kafka, InfluxDB, and Grafana
Collaborate with data engineering to define, manage, and maintain our data processing environments: development sandbox and production workflow, using tools like AWS Lambda, Jupyter Hub, and Apache Airflow.
Build the APIs and tooling to integrate our cloud with remote antenna ground station networks
Integrate physical test hardware in our lab with our cloud systems
Architect systems to achieve low latency and fault tolerance
Deploy infrastructure and tools to workstations, on-premises datacenters, and cloud environments
B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in computer science or related field, or equivalent experience
5+ years experience as a software engineer in a team environment
Strong programming experience in Python, with knowledge of industry-standard data formats and schemas (ProtoBuf, YAML, JSON, etc)
Experience with cloud-native software development in at least one major cloud provider (AWS, GCP, Azure) using containers and Kubernetes
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Excited to work in a fast-paced environment with new opportunities each week
Experience selecting and deploying a service oriented architecture based on specific performance and feature needs (REST vs. GraphQL, streaming vs. request based, Django vs. Flask, etc.)
Experience managing CI/CD in a cloud-based development, staging, and production environment
Have a passion for simple architectures and clean APIs
Strong Linux fundamentals and comfortable with Linux development and deployment environment
IT and Information security (authentication, encryption)
Web interactive UI design (for data access and visualization)
Experience smoothly deploying continuously evolving data services to customers
At Muon, our mission embraces the entire planet, and we believe our team should too. Muon is dedicated to creating a diverse and dynamic company and workforce. We believe in equal employment opportunity regardless of race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, age, national origin, citizenship, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, or gender identity.
