Company: STATISTISK SENTRALBYRÅ AVD OSLO

Country: Norway

Type: Hybrid remote

Employment: Full-time

Description:

For the teams working on the development of SSB's data platform, Dapla, we are looking for a developer with expertise in cloud technologies and an interest in building and putting together services for handling large amounts of data.

Dapla is built on the infrastructure of Google Cloud, and will make it easy, secure and efficient to use data to create insights and statistics for society.

To succeed with Dapla, we need more people on the team. The developers who build Dapla work in teams with specific product areas that are continuously delivered to production. Our teams explore and adopt new tools and technologies to solve our mission in the best possible way. At SSB, we prioritize tools based on open source code, and contribute back to the community where we can. We aim to publish as much of our own source code as possible openly at github.com/statisticsnorway. Today, the toolbox consists of, among other things, Google Cloud, KI, Kubernetes, NAIS, Python, Kotlin, Terraform, Go, Polars, DuckDB and Parquet.

Good decisions start with good statistics - and Dapla makes it possible!

The application process
We are concerned about your IT expertise and are curious about your motivation to work with us. You don't need to write a long job application - a short text about why you want to work with us, combined with a well-filled CV that describes what you can do and have done in the past, should make it clear that you are exactly what we are looking for.

  • Secure data through good access management, documentation, versioning and compliance with requirements for privacy and information security.

  • Contribute to the further development of DevOps culture and agile working methodology.
  • Actively contribute to competence development and knowledge sharing within your own professional area.
What skills do you have?

    • work with and preferably contribute to open source solutions
    • full stack development in languages/frameworks such as Java, Python or Go
    • infrastructure such as code and container platforms, including Kubernetes
Personal characteristics
  • Creative and solution-oriented: Ability to understand and explore complex needs, and develop user-friendly solutions.
  • Team-oriented: Good communication and collaboration skills with developers and other professional environments.
  • Committed and motivated: Highly motivated to contribute to SSB's social mission.
  • Future-oriented: Thrives with continuous learning, exploring new technologies and sharing knowledge.

Work somewhere where you contribute to solving an important social mission, while at the same time you get to work in an exciting technical environment! As an employee at SSB, you get to work with competent professionals in an organization that has great trust among the population and among decision-makers.

We have good opportunities for professional development. We believe in active employeeship where we take responsibility for our own development and learning in close collaboration with good colleagues and managers. We set aside time every week to work on competence building and sharing, we arrange hackathons, meetups, monthly demos and much more because we want to learn from each other. We go to great lengths to ensure that teams and developers can design their own working day.

For us, a good balance between work and leisure is important. You get flextime, paid overtime and summer time in the period 15 May to 14 September inclusive. Everyday life at SSB is hybrid and flexible. We believe that you, who are closest to the tasks, know best how to solve them, both from your home office and in modern premises in Kongsvinger or Oslo.

In addition, we offer:

  • Permanent employment as a senior advisor in a salary range of NOK 850,000 - 1,000,000, depending on qualifications. If you are particularly well qualified, a higher salary can be considered.
  • Active welfare and sports associations.
  • Opportunity for one hour of training a week during working hours, with a training room in the office premises.
  • Membership in the Norwegian State Pension Fund, which means you get one of Norway's best pension schemes and the opportunity to apply for a home loan with favorable conditions.

Worth noting before you applicant:

  • In order for us to be able to assess your application as best as possible, we need you to register relevant documentation in the electronic application portal (certificates, diplomas, etc.) within the application deadline. For candidates that we are considering hiring, we can carry out background checks and checks of documentation.
  • When you apply for a job with us, your name will be visible on a public applicant list, but it is only available to those who may request access to it. It is possible to be excluded from this applicant list. In that case, you must justify why you wish to be exempted. We will then decide whether we can grant your request. If we can't do that, you will of course hear from us.
  • SSB must be a good place to work for everyone, and we want employees with different skills, subject combinations, life experience and perspectives to solve the tasks of the future. If you have a disability, an immigrant background, or have had a long absence from work, education or training in recent years, we would encourage you to tick this when you apply for the position. It gives you the opportunity to get preferential treatment. We invite at least one qualified applicant from each of these groups to an interview. If you need special arrangements, we will go to great lengths to meet your needs.
  • We want you to feel confident in your choice when you agree to work at SSB. If you are suitable for the position, we offer you a reverse reference check. This means that you get to contact some of our employees and ask any questions you wish to find out better whether we are a good match
