Bookairfreight combines world class customer service with a technology platform to save small businesses time and money on international shipments.

At Bookairfreight we combine world class customer service with technology to solve a huge pain point for small e-commerce business owners - international shipping! If you can believe it, working with suppliers to move goods from the factory where they are manufactured to warehouses in different countries is super low tech - I'm talking multiple phone calls, emails, Excel spreadsheets, and Faxes (yes, you read that correctly). Our platform enables instant shipping quotes and digitized shipment management and tracking. Customers save days of time spent waiting for a quote and double-digit percentage on shipping fees. 

* Have 3+ years in backend development, very ideally in Python
* Have an understanding of DBMS - we use PostgreSQL but any SQL equivalent is fine.
* Communicate well in English - you'll be coordinating with our CTO as well as frontend engineers.
* Are excited about all aspects of software development - we have a lot of legacy code that needs to be modernized, new features to build out, and optimizations that need to be made.
* Interested in logistics - can think globally. This isn’t a San Francisco startup selling to other San Francisco startups. Shipping runs the world and we want to be its backbone.
* Want to work remotely, and have a guarantee that you won’t be forced back into the office after the pandemic has settled. Bookairfreight is REMOTE FIRST.

Job functions

* Work with our CTO to take ownership of backend systems
* Build out new systems and add functionality in existing ones in Python.
* Write unit + integration tests.
* Collaborate with the frontend engineering team to build out API's.

Desirable skills

* Python + Python-based web frameworks. We use Flask but experience with FastAPI + Django is also fine.
* DBMS
* AWS Services - SQS, EC2, ECS.
* Understanding of containerization, such as Docker.
* API design
