As Head of AI Engineering (F/M/*) at amber, you will be responsible for the technical development of our AI platform - from enterprise search to RAG pipelines to agent-based workflows. You lead our AI engineering team, implement the technological roadmap together with product and management and ensure that our solutions are secure, scalable and production-ready in use at over 400 companies.

Your tasks

• You are responsible for the technical vision and architecture of our AI platform - from in-house trained small language models to vectorization, RAG pipelines to agent-based workflow

• You lead the AI engineering team professionally and disciplinary, develop it further and expand it in accordance with our growth goals

• You translate product requirements together with product and management into a clear technical roadmap and consistently prioritize according to customer benefits

• You ensure that our systems run scalable, performantly and reliably - from model selection to evaluation and monitoring in production

• You establish best practices for ML/LLM Ops, code quality, testing and deployment and continuously develop our engineering processes

• You are responsible for security and compliance requirements in engineering - GDPR compliance, ISO 27001 and authorization awareness are not an afterthought for us, but rather the core of the product

• You monitor current developments in the area of LLMs, retrieval and agents, evaluate new technologies and decide what finds its way into our platform

• You are a sparring partner for your team: You promote technical excellence, give feedback and create an environment in which engineers can grow

Your qualifications

• You have several years of experience in developing and operating machine learning or AI systems in production, ideally in a SaaS or B2B environment

• You have already led or built an engineering team and know how to motivate, develop and set priorities clearly for technical teams

• You have a deep understanding of modern AI technologies - LLMs, RAG, vector databases, embeddings and ideally agent-based architectures

• You are strong in software architecture and backend development, confident in Python and familiar with cloud infrastructure, CI/CD and MLOps practices

• You think strategically and at the same time get involved operationally - a hands-on mentality comes naturally to you

• You make technical decisions based on data, pragmatically and with an eye on maintainability and scaling

• You have an awareness of data protection and security and ideally experience with compliance requirements in an enterprise environment

• You communicate clearly and authoritatively in German and English and speak confidently with different stakeholders - from engineers to management
