We are looking for someone who wants to help build expertise in the use of economic modeling tools to carry out analyzes of agriculture in Norway. You see the potential for a robust and viable agriculture that contributes to the green shift, like to work interdisciplinary and are motivated by concrete results. 

National and international agricultural policy are increasingly intertwined. At NIBIO, we work to increase knowledge about connections between national and international framework conditions. In particular, we look at the economic consequences of alternative designs of agricultural policy, greenhouse gas emissions from agriculture and decision support at farm level.

The main tasks of the position
  • Initiate, develop and carry out research that analyzes the consequences of Norwegian and international agricultural policy, both for the agricultural industry and society at large
  • Maintain, further develop and apply existing models in NIBIO's portfolio (calculation, optimization and simulation models)
  • Develop and adopt new models for decision support and analyzes of agriculture and policy formulation there existing tools are not sufficient
  • Carry out research and investigation work with a spotlight on overall, economic analyzes within the primary industries
  • Contribute to the dissemination of knowledge, both scientifically and in popularized form, and ensure good communication with industry, administration and other research actors

Qualification requirements
  • PhD in economics
  • Experience from social science and natural science collaboration
  • Comprehensive experience in using modeling tools
  • Experience in developing user-friendly analysis tools based on scientific models
  • Must be fluent in a Scandinavian language (Norwegian, Swedish or Danish), both spoken and written

It is an advantage if you have
  • Knowledge and experience with project procurement
  • Good insight into agriculture-related issues
  • Experience with programming and development of optimization and simulation models for policy-making and decision support within agriculture and/or other land- and nature-based industries
  • Experience with Python, GAMS, MATLAB, Stella Architect or similar
  • Knowledge of models and tools such as Jordmod, OPTINORFARM, Climate Calculator etc.
  • Experience of using AI tools in development work
  • Knowledge of central data sources within Norwegian agriculture (for (for example, operational audits)
  • Good networks in a relevant professional environment
  • Experience from research work within the agricultural sector

The position is placed in the state salary regulations as researcher code 1109, annual salary NOK 635,000 - 850,000. Remuneration is assessed according to education and experience.
