The Division of Digital Health Innovation within the Center for Collaborative and Interactive Technologies (CCIT) is a multidisciplinary group seeking to apply the best evidence, education, and technology to improve human health. As part of the CCIT team, your work will make direct impacts on patients and healthcare professionals, improving the quality, efficiency, and equity of healthcare delivered at Baylor College of Medicine and across the world.


The Senior Software Engineering and Programming Associate will be responsible for planning, developing, testing, and maintaining the Center’s portfolio of Djando web apps, infrastructure, and other technical products. This position will take direction from the CCIT Director and the Senior Manager and will provide mentorship and guidance for junior staff. This position will be expected to operate with limited oversight while working directly with users and stakeholders. Opportunities to contribute to big data projects, mobile apps, and clinical technologies may be available, depending on the developer’s interests. To ensure success, the candidate should continuously seek to learn and grow professionally while delivering high-quality, on-schedule products.


As a developer in our group, expect to meet the team, be introduced to one or more of our major projects, check out code, and join a sprint in your first week. In your first month, you will have shipped a significant feature and taken responsibility for a project (with support from the team). As you become familiar with the project portfolio, you’ll join projects at all stages, from scoping and ideation to implementation.

This position is eligible to work fully remote.

Job Duties

  • Participate in all aspects of the development and maintenance of Django web applications and other technical products.
  • Provide technical leadership in the development of one or more projects.
  • Mentor junior developers to provide technical leadership and assistance.
  • Work directly with collaborators and clients to develop requirements and ensure project success.
  • Assist in ensuring security and compliance in all products.
  • Collaborate with other developers to develop and test software products.
  • Research and assess new technologies and methodologies.
  • Use user feedback and testing results to identify problems and opportunities in the Center’s technical projects.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree. Four years of relevant experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • Four years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, data analytics, or a related field
  • 4 years of professional experience working with Python and Django (or similar web framework)
  • 1 year of professional experience managing infrastructure on AWS, Azure, or GCP
  • Experience in HTMX, Wagtail, React Native, and Front-end JavaScript framework such as React
  • Experience working in the healthcare field, especially experience working with clinical data exchange in HL7 or FHIR
  • Broad technical skill base with experience in areas such as AI/ML, mobile development, or data analytics
  • Strong critical thinking, analysis, and planning skills
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Flexibility in the workplace
  • Willingness to learn and accept feedback
  • Goal-oriented and deadline-driven outlook
  • A portfolio of relevant work such as a GitHub profile or demonstrated experience documented by letters of recommendation or performance in work settings
