This is a remote permanent position for those based in the UK or Ireland.

We’re looking for someone with extensive experience leading technology teams who is still hands-on, to translate client project requirements into what the team produces, then lead the collaboration of the team to deliver the best quality output for our clients within specific timeframes.

Data Leads are responsible for delivering projects for our clients. The Data Lead is a hybrid managerial/technical role, overseeing project delivery and acting as a facilitator while also having hands-on technical responsibilities. We are constantly switching between technical activities and feature activities. This means facilitating sprint planning, retrospectives and showcases, refining stories with technical guidance, writing and reviewing code, solving issues with external dependencies, and ensuring collective thinking.

The Role:

As a Data Lead, you are involved in all aspects of Delivery, Support and Deployment, working directly with NearForm’s clients on a variety of projects.  You help our clients translate their business and technical requirements into software applications.   

You will work in high performing software teams who are distributed across different locations and at times when you will work in teams alongside the clients development teams.  Our Data Leads are outcome driven, and deliver the best quality output for our clients within specific timeframes.

 As part of this you need to: 

  • Provide technical and line-management leadership to your development team 
  • Take responsibility for the successful delivery of projects
  • Identify and resolve blockers before they become issues
  • Work directly with clients, translating requirements into technical briefs 
  • Shape and define architectural decisions 
  • Provide reports to client and NearForm leadership to ensure clear understanding of project status and drive good decision-making
  • Be fluent in English with excellent communication skills 
  • Embrace the NearForm culture and way of working

This is a hands-on role, so you need to have a background in development that will include some of the following:

  • Python, SQL and Javascript based development
  • Database design, maintenance and evolution
  • API design and development
  • Cloud architecture, administration and Systems Integration
  • Data and MLOps, including ETL/ELT, Architecture to Infrastructure development, CI and Tooling

  • Experience leading software engineering teams
  • Deep Understanding of Data Engineering Practices and Modern Data Architectures
  • Deep understanding of Relational and Document data stores.
  • Deep understanding of test-driven development and testing best practices
  • Deep understanding of open source technologies and tools
  • Deep understanding of cloud technologies and operational concerns (such as monitoring, performance testing, security considerations, accessibility, GDPR)
  • Familiarity with modern Data and MLOps practices
  • Drive to deliver outcomes for our customers
  • Empathy and people skills
Optional Experience:

If you have any experience in the following areas, please do mention it, as whilst it is optional it is highly desired:

  • Experience of working with multiple cloud providers e.g. GCP/AWS/Azure
  • Experience with Databricks or Snowflake data platforms
  • Experience with cloud architecture including message queues, administration and Systems Integration, and tools such as Terraform, Docker and Kubernetes
  • Experience with GraphQL in a production environment
  • Experience with FastAPI, Pydantic, Flask and Django
  • Experience with SQL Databases and tools such as dbt and Great Expectations
  • Experience with JSON, RESTful APIs, SQL in a microservice architecture
  • Experience mentoring, coaching and developing software engineers
  • Experience speaking at conferences, presenting workshops or writing blog posts or books
